The story of Santal Safran began with a vision held by Dimple Fouzdar, she particularly loved the notes of saffron and sandalwood, she had endless conversations with her team of master perfumers who would help create a fragrance with these two notes as the main notes and where they should retain their authenticity! The team of master noses then got down to sourcing the highest quality of saffron and sandalwood which would be the key players in this fragrance! We sought to create a fragrance that would embody the essence of both the exotic and the refined, a scent that would capture the soul of far-off lands and timeless elegance. The key to this vision lay in the rare red sandalwood, sourced from the ancient forests of Australia. This sandalwood, revered for its unique and creamy texture, formed the heart of Santal Safran. Our journey to acquire this precious wood was a testament to our dedication. Deep within Australia's wilderness, the red sandalwood trees stood tall, their wood rich with centuries of history and the whispers of the earth. The harvested wood was imbued with a warmth and depth that would serve as the perfect foundation for his masterpiece. To complement the sandalwood, we at Maison de Fouzdar sought the finest saffron from the fields of Iran. Each thread of this crimson spice was hand-picked, its aroma intense and unmistakable. The saffron added an assertive note to the blend, a burst of vibrant spice that perfectly offset the smoothness of the sandalwood. This combination was both bold and harmonious, a delicate dance of contrasts. But the creation of Santal Safran did not end there. Our Master perfumers knew that to achieve true olfactory complexity, he needed a base that would enhance and elevate the blend. We chose musk for its rich, enveloping qualities. The musk acted as the silent supporter, enhancing the depth of the fragrance and ensuring its longevity. It provided a lasting warmth that allowed the sandalwood and saffron to shine in all their glory. Santal Safran, as the name suggests, opens up with precious Iranian Indian Indian Saffron also known as "Red Gold." The saffron note gives it a fresh, spicy,earthy,leathery, bittersweet opulent opening that projects and fills the entire room from the initial spray. The ingredient quality used is the finest!!!
The real magic starts as the perfume transitions into middle and base notes, where Sandalwood comes in the picture,which has creamy, woody notes. This is real sandalwood with no synthetic notes. The sandalwood ,musk notes are the prominent notes for the entire journey. This is the best sandalwood perfume I have tried, and it competes with Santal 33 (Le Labo).
PS Short Story: I got to know about this brand from Scentido (Mumbai) and loved sampling all the offerings. I wanted to still give it a try, but lately they are offering 10 ml decants, which is the best initiative as this gives us the opportunity to sample products and then order full presentations.

This is a Power House perfume, with the saffron note projecting for 1~1.5 hours and the creamy sandalwood notes leaving the best sillage and scent trail. The sandalwood notes stay on the skin for 7~8 hours and on the clothes for almost the entire day. This creates a perfume bubble around you, and it will be noticed by everyone around you.
The presentation of 10 mL samples is also great, with sleek 10 mL bottles that are easy to carry!
I am proud to see this Indian house making niche products!
